Electrical Hand Tools

Electrical hand tools can be a risk since they often have isolated conductors.

An ESD/ATEX compliant version of most electrical tools are available. As always how they are complaint needed to be reviewed and tested. The difference between complaint and non-compliant can be a logo and a higher price!

Probably the most critical electrical hand tools are soldering equipment.  Firstly because they come directly into contact with the device and secondly because they are likely to loose the ground connection with the constant heating of the element.

The ground on soldering equipment should be checked at regular intervals.

Vacuum cleaning equipment can be a high risk in ATEX area. The combination of dust and the suction from the cleaners provides an effective charging mechanism.
